Choosing the right necklace length

Brenda Boylan Said:

How do I know if my necklace looks good with my outfit. Are there any rules and regulations? Does anyone care?

Well there are some great tips you can use to base necklace length choices on.

We will discuss standard lengths of necklaces.

A collar style necklace is usually 12"-13" long. This type of necklace is great to wear to formal gatherings and elegant parties. You should have a thin neck and a blouse that shows off your neck when wearing a collar necklace. You should wear something like an off-the-shoulder or V-neck top or dress.

A choker necklace is about 14"-16" long. You wear this type of necklace only if you want to draw attention to the neckline. It will be the focal point of the eye.

A princess length necklace is 17"-19" long. Everyone understand that this is the most popular length necklace. The only rule to follow with the princess necklace is keep your collar lower than the necklace, so it will clear the necklace. Or make sure the collar is higher than the necklace so the necklace hangs over the collar. It just doesn’t make sense to have both the necklace and collar meeting at the same point.

A matinee length necklace is 20"-24" long. You’ll want to wear a very high or a very low collar with this length of necklace. It will dress up your work and casual clothes. Wear clean line top with this style. You don’t want to wear a decorative top that will fight for attention with the necklace.

An opera length necklace is 28"-34" long. When you wear an opera necklace length it will add style to formal dresses or tops. The eye is drawn to the chest area and away from the neckline.

A rope length necklace is about 45" long. This necklace is great for special occasions. This style forces the eye to move up and down the torso. This style can also be wrapped for to form a double or triple strand.

There you go. Now you have some guidelines for necklace do’s and don’ts. Go enjoy your jewelry.

Choosing A Vintage Style Engagement Ring

Vince J. Paxton Said:

Vintage style engagement rings are a popular choice for brides who love the romantic Victoria era or the ornate settings of antique design. Vintage style engagement rings can be true antiques or they can be modern creations fashioned after the old style rings of another era.

Finding a Vintage Style Engagement Ring

There are jewellery designers who will create a vintage style engagement ring for you from a new design. They may already have several on display or in their portfolio from which you can choose. However, if you want to find a genuine antique diamond ring, you can often find them at estate sales and auctions.

The Internet has made accessing estate sales and auctions from all around the world easily accessible to couples anywhere. You need to be careful of some online auctions and choose to deal only with the most well-known and reputable auction sites. You are dealing with an expensive item that could easily be represented as something it is not online. Good auction sites with authenticate it’s buyers and sellers and provide a means for users to rate and comment on the goods and services they have received.

If you find a vintage style setting at an auction or estate sale and don’t think the diamond is up the size or quality, it is easy enough to replace it with a new diamond of your choice. Since diamonds can be purchased as loose stones, separate from any setting, you don’t need to limit your purchase of a vintage style engagement ring simply because you don’t like the stone.

You don’t even need to limit yourself to rings that were previously engagement rings. You can choose any ring setting you like and turn it into your own custom engagement ring. Other jewellery works well for this idea too. Large vintage earrings can be fashioned into a ring, have a diamond set it them and then they instantly become one of the most beautiful vintage style engagement rings.
